The Death Of Blue Angel
Howdy doodlie,
This week was absolutely insane! Forget previous best weeks, this one wins! The mission is just getting better and better. I'm loving the work and the challenges. This week was week 7 of my first transfer. And I got transfer news!! I'm staying here in Odessa with Elder Ili (so so happy) for another transfer! But sadly we are on bikes this transfer... But that's becuase they opened an area in our zone and brought more elders and also the Spanish elders here DESTROYED their car into pieces. So we have to suffer and give up our car. While it sucks, I am starting to get lowkey excited for it! Our boundaries are MASSIVE however, so we're gonna have to plan lessons hours in advanced. We start the new transfer on Tuesday!
Speaking of lessons... oh boy let me tell ya, we've had our hands full. We have been teaching 16 people that are progressing towards being put on date. (at the very least, 2 investigator lessons a day) and also doing a tonnnnnn of inactive members. This week we hit our numbers like a few days in. We had 20 lessons this week. Which is really good. (Only 8 were member lessons) We normally have around 9 a week. This week we found 3 new people. Finding someone means that we had our first lesson with someone new. So that was good! And adds to our people count to 19. We are getting Joseph Gonzales and his family, our most progressive friends, super close to baptism and probably will put him on date this week!! Pray for me yall! His family is awesome but he deserves his own paragraph so we will talk bout him later. Our ward exploded in attendance this week. We had about filled the chapel! Thats a miracle! Nobody comes to our building EVER! We also had 9 friends come to church this week and I literally almost fell over dead. It was the coolest thing ever. But we did that, we brought the ward back together. (was definitely the lord not us lol)
Which leads into Joseph. The Gonzales family is elect. They are so pure and good and man I love them so much. They have been coming to church and having lessons weekly with us which has been really good. But he's still kinda on the fence. Until at church he brought like his whole family! There was 9 people that came and it was awesome! He said he's feeling more welcomed and comfortable at church, and his kids say they like our church better than the one they attend. (Get recked that other church) overall it's amazing so we're putting them on date for baptism this week, or at least that's what we're planning on.
We also taught Terri the Tie lady. She's the lady that gave me a big bag of ties from a garage sale if you missed that. But she told us at first she wasn't interested but then randomly called us back and we set up a time to teach her. After talking over the phone we found out she knows someone from our ward so we took that member with us to the lesson. We were worried cuz we thought she was going to bible bash us. She teaches at another church, but she was so open to everything we were teaching her. She was so so so awesome!! She's literally the nicest person on the planet. Well second nicest, my mom takes the ribbon and bow for 1st place, not sorry.
That reminds me that I had my first Bible bash this week, which is shocking that it took this long being that I'm in the Bible belt. But there was this weird guy who invited us into his home and even weirder there was a member from our church there already. But he just starts going ham on how we're in a cult and how there's only 1 God and blah blah blah. I listened as paitently as I could, and then it was my turn. Now let me be very very clear, contention is of the devil and I didn't want to be in there having the spirit be taken away and to have what I believe in be bashed and also to bash him, but I felt prompted to say something and I did. I firmly told him that we too believe in the Bible and if he claims that he believes in the Bible than he surely doesn't understand its teachings. I shared verse after verse after verse in the Bible showing that Jesus christ is the son of God, and even the versus in the Book of Mormon (2 Nephi 29) that talk about the Bible. After I shared he just kicked us out of his house. Rip. It was a waste of time and from now on I won't be participating in more bashing, I'm simply leaving. But my comp didn't say anything. Poor elder Ili.
Anyways I could go on but this is getting long so I'll share my testimony this week. Consistency in our efforts will help us become more successful followers of Christ. We can't praise him one day and sin the next. We must constantly be striving to be and do better. Daily repentance and forgiveness for ourselves and others is so important in helping us become more open to hearing Jesus Christ and having him in our lives. I'm learning that daily improvements is building my testimony. I love yall!
