Howdy yall! I'm Elder Jenkins, a missionary for the church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, and I wanted to introduce myself and also share just a little bit about my testimony!
Before I went by the title Elder, I had many names such as: JJ, brother, friend, son, leader, student, and many more! As missionaries we sacrifice a lot to come out and serve the Lord and his people for 18 months to 2 years. I gave up what I loved doing like riding dirtbikes, wakeboarding/surfing, shooting, making music, hanging with family and friends, being outdoors, traveling, and more. While it may be hard to not do those things, I have found joy and my purpose by serving as a missionary. Through personal experiences, I have gained a testimony that Jesus Christ is very real and aware of what we are all going through individually. One of very many experiences I will share with you now…
When I was younger I used to live in Houston Texas. After many other struggles, the biggest one was yet to come. We discovered that our entire house was infested with black mold and it was no longer safe to live in. We had to evacuate and live in many different hotels, apartments and rental homes, as we tried to fix it. We ended up completely loosing the house and everything in it, causing us to move to Utah. While living there for a while, my family and I discovered that I was having some severe health complications. I could barely stay awake throughout the day and I was sluggish and struggling very bad with normal daily tasks. This lead to me have to go to many different doctors and specialist and spend numberless hours to fight and get my health back. After already losing so much, the people I looked to at the time for support, accused me of fabricating what I was going through and saying that my whole experience was fake. I never felt more alone and depressed in my entire life. It was very hard. Fast forward several years, after attending college and regaining some of my health back, I decided to take a leap of faith and serve my mission. This was the best decision I have ever made in my life. After gaining a strong foundation in the gospel I felt so much peace and joy, and now I can look back at those experiences and many many more with gratitude, as they helped me become who I am today. Now my support is my savior Jesus Christ.
I know that Jesus Christ is a healer and our Redeemer. He truly loves every single one of us perfectly and individually. In times when we feel he has walked out of our life, are the times when we need to turn to him the most. One of the best ways we can do this is by reading the scriptures! The scripture that I found joy in during those times was in the Book of Mormon, Mosiah 7:33 and that reads:
33 "But if ye will turn to the Lord with full purpose of heart, and put your trust in him, and serve him with all diligence of mind, if ye do this, he will, according to his own will and pleasure, deliver you out of bondage."
When times get difficult and hard and you feel lonely, remember that Jesus Christ is aware of you and wants you to ask for help. Pray to our Heavenly father to give you strength and he will according to your faith.
Will you be strong and turn to Jesus Christ when you feel lost?
