Free Masons
Whats popping?
Man this week has got to be one of the least productive weeks I've ever had on my mission, but at the same time we also did a lot. We're still struggling with finding people to teach but slowly we've been meeting more and more people and next week we should really start seeing progress and the fruits of our labors. When the work gets slow like this, I tend to go back to feeling really anxious all the time and even get depressed. Some days I wake up and just wish I could lay in bed all day because I know that it's going to be a struggle the entire day to stay motivated and busy when there's not much going on in our area and not much to do. But If no one else, I'll be the one to do the work and to push through becuase I know there's still people here that need the gospel and I know that there's potential. We met mostly with just a bunch of members and inactive members and we were also met with a lot of doors slammed and phones hung up on us, but that just means we're doing something right. What also didn't help this week was the weather. We've been on tornado watch for the past few days and have gotten hail everyday for the past few days. I'm just glad that I'm growing closer to my savior.
We helped out a member this week who is a master Mason. Basically he's a bishop or leader of the free masons here in Alpine. We got to go to the masonic lodge (basically a free Mason temple) and see around and learn all kinds of history about free masonry and all that good stuff. It was actually very interesting to me because I am planning on learning more and maybe becoming a free Mason myself at some point. All the branches that I've served in have had at least one member from the presidency who was a free Mason, and it's just a very cool thing to me. But the masons hosted a free meal for all the teachers in the alpine district and we helped feed over 300 teachers. I didn't think your arm could hurt from pouring so much tea but I also learned that this week.
Besides not having much to do, there's some pretty cool guys that take care of us here. We had almost every meal this week covered, which I'm so grateful and incredibly happy about. I keep telling myself that I'm going to get back into shape but I'm just accepting that God's plan is for me to become a little bigger while on my mission. We had a friend take us to a baseball game which was pretty nice! We got to talk to some of the players and they even came over that night for some BBQ and we talked for a few hours. The lord is definitely providing for me here and showing me his hand in the work. I know I sound like a broken record when I say that but it's true. There's seriously nothing here, but God is still helping me grow and reflect on myself and helping me become a better person and missionary. Like I said before, I got some serious rough edges all over the place, but as I've become more open hearted and yielding to God's plan instead of mine, I realize just how much I need to depend on him and stop being so stubborn. This area might not be the busiest or have the best people or be the safest, but it's sure the area where one can be closer to their Heavenly father and I can bare witness of that.
Well guys that's all I got for you today. Thanks for everyone who reaches out and shares messages I really appreciate that. It keeps me going. Yall stay safe and humble!
Godspeed!
