Jazmins Baptism
Well well well,
So we meet again. Man this week was a very very busy week for us. We had a lot of things to do to get ready for jazmins baptism and a lot of lessons and things to take care of aswell. I sweat through all of my white shirts which could be taken as a good thing I guess, but we were always on our feet doing something and it's nice to have a little break to catch up. We had zone conference in the beginning of the week and that was a very spiritual experience as always. We talked a lot about letting the atonement work for everyone, including other missionaries and other people, because some people struggle with allowing the atonement to work for the people they are around. It was a good message and it's important to remember that the atonement is and was for everyone, and everyone can be changed by the atoning sacrifice of our savior Jesus christ. When we hold someone's past over their heads we are not allowing ourselves to see how the grace of God has changed them and how it can change them.
On Saturday after jazmins baptism, we were invited to go to the temple and do baptisms for the dead for a recent convert family. It was such a special thing to be a part of and the spirit was very strong. They are an older couple and I love them so much. The wife's brother died a year ago on the day we went to the temple and baptized him, so she was very emotional which turned on the faucet for everyone else or at least me. I loved being there and it made me so happy. Saturday was a really really good day and full of the spirit because we just did a lot of baptisms and work for the lord, who can complain about that!?
Jazmins baptism
Friday night I stayed up pretty late getting the programs setup, spending a lot of time on my knees and stressing about if everything was going to go smoothly. I promised jazmin that I was going to be the one to get her baptized and I wanted everything to go perfectly. When I first came to plainview it was obvious that a lot of work would need to be done. The first thing I noticed about her was that she was pregnant, and the father wasn't going to be involved in the babies life. At such a young age she has been through a lot, and the ball has been dropped on her being baptized multiple times so she lost faith and hope that it would ever happen. We spent the first few weeks just meeting with her family and she would be in the next room over, or nowhere near us at all, but we kept believing one day she will come and sit with us. Slowly over time she warmed up to me and Elder Scott, and she started talking to us more and having short gospel conversations, after which ended up with her expressing that she wants to be catholic. I knew that there was something holding her back from baptism so I studied, prayed, and kept digging. Well I found the reason and I worked hard at helping her feel more comfortable with coming to church and being baptized, because she expressed this was a desire she had. So I promised to her that I was going to be the one who was going to help her get baptized. We met with her multiple times a week, every week since. We had a lot of really hard moments, and really good spiritual moments and we became good friends. Well through it all she did it. She turned her life around and made a commitment to keep God's commandments and to enter into his kingdom. On may 6th 2023 she was baptized, and on may 7th 2023 she was confirmed a member of the church of Jesus christ of latter day saints, and received the holy ghost. After she was emersed in the water she looked to her grandma and said "I did it, I did it grandma, I finally got baptized!" And she was crying. What a special experience. One I will soon never forget. I am so happy that she was able to make this decision. I now promise to her that we will get her baby blessed.
Well yall, this church is undoubtedly true. It's going to take Satan all that he has to get me to denounce my faith. He might as well just give up because there is no point in trying to get me to do something that will never happen. He knows who will win in the end and he has no power over a worthy priesthood holder. I hope you have a wonderful week this week, and let God prevail and win!
