I Swear I'm A Polygamist
What's up gang?
No I'm not a polygamist, I just had no idea what to put for the title of my email so I went with the funniest quote of the week. It hasn't been long since our last time we talked so there ain't gonna be much, but we had some good productive days. We've been super busy which has been amazing. The last two transfers I've been stuck in this super weird rut where I was kind of freaking out about going home, I'm exhausted and it's hard to find motivation to do the same thing in a different area over and over again, and all other kinds of mixed emotions and feelings, but now I'm super excited to still be here in Hobbs and to be serving with Elder Anderson. I served around my current companion in my previous area of Abilene, so getting to know him was super easy and we already get along well. I can tell it's going to be a really really good transfer. Our teaching pool is a little over 40 people but we only meet with about 8 consistently, weekly or multiple times a week. I'm so grateful that we pushed through the hard in the last transfer of constant knocking and nothing else, because we finally now have planned lessons where we can focus on the progression of people making and keeping commitments rather than just hunting for them by knocking doors. It's also nice to give my wrist a bit of a break. I've never had a more busy area and that's saying a lot because I've had some pretty busy areas, but man it's been crazy here, sometimes too crazy. It's just been really good to see the progress here and I'm actually super grateful that I stayed. I really wanted to leave when transfers rolled around, but now that I'm here I can see that it's where I need to be!
Probably the biggest thing I've learned on the mission, or at least the lesson I've been taught time and time again, is how important it is to be patient and to trust the Lord, and not give up. Man there's been so many times where I have an idea of how I want something to go, whether it be a lesson, an area, a companion, my life in general or whatever, and the Lord just laughs and waits for me to realize I'm not the one in control. I've learned that it's easier to ask him first and make sure you know his will, before you go and mess up and come crawling back because it's harder the second time. I think that applies to everyone and not just missionaries. In our day to day lives we get so caught up in routines and when anything takes us out of that we feel powerless, out of control, frustrated, or maybe even shut down. We're so used to doing things in our own strength and knowledge that we forget the Lord in the details because of our routine that we're so used to. I often hear on door approaches before they slam them, that they are too busy at the moment to hear our message, and I ask them: "are you ever too busy for Jesus?" And it makes me wonder if we ourselves ever get so caught up in how we want things to go or how we are used to having things go, that we forget to involve the Lord in our day, and allow him to give us inspiration. Recieving inspiration from the person who created you and knows everything is so powerful. We can't recieve that spiritual inspiration if we think we know our lives better, or don't allow the Lord to use you that day to share the gospel or even live it. Involve the Lord in all that you do and ask what his will is for you that day and find ways to change up something to allow the spirit to use different opportunities, talents, and abilities to help you or others grow in ways that you never have before because you're caught up in what you're used to. This includes, but is not limited to reading your scriptures daily, changing the time you say your prayers or how often you pray, reaching out to people you usually don't or maybe haven't in a while, or even staying longer at the store to have more opportunities to be around more people for longer. It's such a simple concept and change that will literally pour out blessing from heaven, because each day you are being led to do what God wants you to do and you're putting yourself in different situations or places where the Lord can work with you to make miracles happen. People often ask how they can find time to share the gospel, or how to do it. Ask God daily to give you that inspiration and he will do it. And it doesn't have to be about sharing the gospel either, the most important thing is that you did what God wanted you to do that day and that helps us get closer to him.
Anyways I'll hop off my soapbox. Hope yall have an amazing day and week! I'm going to continue to work my butt off and return with honor in 4 months time!
